In 1989 the citizens of Monroe County voted for a 911 Communications system. A 911 Board was formed and work began bringing the four cities along with the county governments in agreement for one centralized communication center, answering 911 emergency and non-emergency calls from the Citizens and People of Monroe County and it’s municipalities; Sweetwater, Madisonville, Vonore, and Tellico Plains.
The 911 Center’s first location was in the basement of the Wellwood Irons Building on Lewis Street in Madisonville. In 2001, the 911 Center moved to its current location at 3473 New Highway 68, and is located between Madisonville and Sweetwater.
Monroe County Enhanced 911 (E-911) system automatically provides land line caller’s phone number (ANI) and physical address (ALI) and gives the coordinates of cell phone callers. The 911 Mapping of the county and city roads and streets shows locations of callers, providing dispatchers information to direct emergency responders.
Our mission is to enhance the quality of life for every person in Monroe County by receiving and processing 911 emergency calls and non-emergency calls. Providing communications support for law enforcement, fire, EMS, rescue squad, highway department, and other emergency services in delivering the most appropriate, timely, and safe response to calls for service from citizens we mutually serve. This support is rendered by highly trained and caring professional telecommunicators utilizing state-of-the-art telephone, radio, and computer technology, thereby helping to save lives, protect property, and assisting the public, making Monroe County and its municipalities a safer community in which to live, work, and visit.
